Milon V. Parker is no stranger to breaking boundaries and creating waves in the world of independent filmmaking. This multifaceted talent—writer, director, producer, and actor—has spent over a decade crafting narratives that speak to the heart of the LGBTQ+ experience. With every project, she challenges conventions, reshapes representation, and captivates audiences with her bold storytelling.
Her journey began in 2009 with her acting debut in the groundbreaking play Bois Don’t Cry, an opportunity that came from an unexpected encounter with fellow author Laurinda D. Brown. What started as an acting gig soon lit a fire within her. "That experience helped me realize the power of storytelling and representation," Milon shares, reflecting on how it shaped her passion for creating meaningful projects.
The following year, she joined forces with filmmaker Coquie Hughes for My Mama Said Yo Mama’s a DYKE. Watching Hughes direct ignited Milon’s love for filmmaking. “Seeing her in action sparked something inside me. I knew then that filmmaking was my calling.”
Milon’s breakout success came with The Lies We Tell But The Secrets We Keep, a fan-favorite film series that became an anthem for queer storytelling. What began as a short story inspired by an ex-girlfriend grew into a phenomenon that audiences couldn’t get enough of. “After filming Part 1 and seeing its success, fans wanted more. I kept the story going to keep them engaged,” Milon explains, her devotion to her audience clear. However, like all great sagas, the series had to come to an end. “Every good thing must come to an end, but the journey was incredible.”
As an openly lesbian filmmaker, Milon brings authenticity to every project. She draws from her own life experiences and the stories of the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring her narratives resonate deeply with viewers. “I aim to keep my storytelling real and relatable,” she states. This authenticity has been a driving force behind her production company, MVP Productions, which has become a beacon for queer representation in film.
But it hasn’t been an easy road. Independent filmmaking comes with its challenges, especially for a queer Black woman in a male-dominated industry. “Dealing with straight men who don’t respect me as a director has been frustrating,” she admits. Yet, her resilience and focus have allowed her to overcome these obstacles and stay true to her mission: creating films that represent and celebrate LGBTQ+ individuals.
Milon’s range as an actor further amplifies her impact. Having starred in over 22 projects, she carefully selects roles that showcase her versatility. From romantic leads to gritty “hood” characters, she refuses to be typecast. “I want to show my range and authenticity in every role,” she asserts.
Looking ahead, Milon is diving into new territory with two upcoming films—a psychological thriller targeting the LGBTQ+ community and a poignant drama exploring women’s friendships and love lives. “These projects delve deeper into emotions and complexities,” she reveals, her excitement palpable. “I believe the psychological thriller will be my best film yet.”
For Milon V. Parker, the journey is far from over. With her unique voice, undeniable talent, and commitment to storytelling excellence, she continues to inspire, challenge, and connect with audiences. Her work is more than entertainment; it’s a testament to the power of representation and the resilience of the human spirit. Fans of her work can expect nothing less than brilliance as she forges ahead, creating stories that leave an indelible mark on the world.
And if you’re not already a fan of Milon V. Parker, now’s the time to dive into her world. Her stories aren’t just for the LGBTQ+ community—they’re for anyone who appreciates authenticity, boldness, and the beauty of untold truths.
